Have you wondered why making monkey noises at a football game has become such a problem and concern to dark skinned people?

‘It’s not just black people who are the victims of ‘monkey’ taunts. ‘Even US President George Bush has been likened to a chimpanzee,’ says David Catchpoole in ‘Creation’ magazine Vol 29 No 3 June 2007- ‘Do monkeys play football?‘… ‘I’ve never heard it described as ‘racist’….. Here’s the problem – when white people are likened to monkeys and apes, it’a not racist, but to equate black people and apes is racist,’…. When Darwin popularized the theory of evolution, he clearly suggested that some people are ‘more evolved’ than others. In that context, it was easy for people of European ancestry to forget that western achievements in science, literature, music etc., arose in large part out of the energising freedom, mutual trust, and call-to-fruitfulness ideals provided by a biblical worldview. Instead, many people of British and European ancestry imagined that their ‘evolutionarily advanced’ societies reflected their superiority over other ‘races’ – especially black ‘races.’ …… ‘So today, because evolution is presumed to be true, making monkey noises at a black person is construed as ‘racist’, i.e. demeaning black people relative to whites…….specifically, blacks are less evolved than whites. Of course they don’t dare put it so bluntly – it’s simply assumed…And now the United Nations (General Assembly, 58th session -May 2006) is trying to stamp it out.’

‘This is a classic example of society reaping the consequences (e.g. racism) of what it has sown (evolutionary teaching).’

Can it be done? Garry Egger says yes, research has shown you can quit smoking without piling on the weight.

One of the excuses you  often hear from smokers for not stopping is that they are worried they would put on weight. However, research has shown that it’s possible to keep your weight down while you go through the process of quitting smoking. Smoking does keep body weight down because it raises your metabolic rate and gives you something to do with your hands, apart from putting nutrition in your mouth. However, it shifts fat from otherwise harmless parts of the body (the hips and buttocks), to places where it is more dangerous (around the waist).

Also, the teenage girl who is smoking to keep her weight down should be aware that putting off quitting until later can make the problem worse. Fat is redistributed to her upper body, increasing the risk of heart disease, diabetes and a number of other problems. Females are also likely to suffer a ‘bounce-back’ effect after restricting their body weight artificially for so long. Long-term obesity, which is very hard to shift, is the likely result.

If smoking is the number one preventable cause of disease, the paradox is that obesity through inactivity is about to overtake it. And because quitting smoking and obesity are so intimately related for many people, it’s vital for smokers to know the proper approaches to weight management at the same time – or preferably before – they attempt to quit.’

This is good, sweet news for diabetics and dieters; low-glycemic foods may be your ticket to a leaner, healthier life!

Fortunately, making the change to a healthier diet is not that difficult. Since high-glycemic foods raise insulin and blood glucose levels, stimulate fat storage, promote hyperactivity and help increase the risk of Type 2 diabetes, a change to a low-glycemic diet can be extremely beneficial. Foods with a low-glycemic index help improve a person’s muscle-to-fat ratio. They also reduce sugar-related energy and mood swings and don’t stimulate the body to store fat. So it’s easy to see why a low-glycemic diet can help diabetics. It may also help prevent diabetes in the first place or may prevent some of the complications.

The glycemic index(GI) shows how to increase the amount of carbohydrate in a diabetic’s diet without increasing sugar levels. How? By choosing foods with a low-glycemic index.

The GI of foods is not a measure of sugar in the blood. It shows the effect of a particular food on blood sugar compared to the effect of pure sugar, or glucose, e.g. white bread, with a GI of 70, would cause an increase in blood sugar equal to 70% that of sugar, while an apple, with GI index of 30, would cause an increase in blood sugar equal to only 30% that of sugar. By using the glycemic index, diabetics and dieters can learn to choose a nutritious and tasty variety of low-glycemic foods and still keep their blood sugar – and waistlines- in good shape.

Mannatech Inc., the discovers of glyconutrients, that give optimal health and well-being, totally endorse the Glycemic Index. They strongly recommend the diet to all those who have diabetes, want to lose weight or just want a good nutritional lifestyle to overcome disease and maintain health.
